PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course

The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course is composed of 5 Adventure Dives that aim to expand your diving skills and experience, as well as boost your confidence in your own diving abilities. It includes the Deep Adventure dive, Underwater Navigation dive, and three other Adventure Dives of your choice.

Under the supervision of an instructor, you get to try samples of different Adventure Dives that you might be interested to specialize in the future. Your experience in the chosen Adventure Dive may be used as credit if you plan on taking the corresponding PADI Specialty Diver Course.

Difference between Open Water and Advanced Open Water Diver Course

The difference between the Open Water Diver Course and the Advanced Open Water course is that the former allows you to become a certified scuba diver, wherein you learn the basic skills needed for diving both in knowledge development and actual dives. The PADI Advanced Open Water course, on the other hand, broadens your experience and skills in diving, by giving you a taste of different diving activities.

Like the Open Water Diver course, there is a manual you need to read for your PADI Advanced Open Water diving course, but there are no exams or quizzes to take to complete your Advanced Open Water certification.

Advanced Open Water Diving Course Scope

The advanced scuba diving course consists of five Adventure Dives, two of which are compulsory – the Deep Adventure dive and the Underwater Navigation dive. The Deep Adventure dive helps you develop skills in managing the challenges of diving at greater depths. The Underwater Navigation dive improves your navigation skills by elevating your mastery of the underwater compass & teaching you to estimate distance underwater. These skills are especially useful during your more advanced scuba diving adventures.

For your other three Adventure Dives, you may choose among the many Adventure dives, including the following:

  • AWARE Fish ID Dive
  • Digital Underwater Photography Dive
  • Underwater Videography
  • Drift Dive
  • Enriched Air Nitrox Dive
  • Night Dive
  • Wreck Dive
  • Peak Performance Buoyancy Dive
  • Search & Recovery Dive
  • Underwater Naturalist Dive
  • Boat dive
  • Shark Awareness
