ALONA BEACH
Sea Explorers Cabilao Diving Resort

The famous Alona Beach is a white sandy about one kilometer long beach on the southern side of Panglao Island. Panglao Island is located in the  south-western part of the main island Bohol and is connected with two bridges to Tagbilaran, the capital of Bohol. With Balicasag Island Alona Beach  has one of the divers top spots in the Visayas close-by.

Getting there: The fast ferry from Cebu City will take you to Tagbilaran in approximately 2 hours. From there it’s another 30 minutes by taxi or  tricycle, to Alona Beach. The best, easiest, most comfortable and hassle free way to reach Alona, is to let the friendly Sea Explorers staff at our  Head Office in Cebu organize the transfer for you.

Dive Sites around Alona Beach

HOUSEREEF

This dive site is directly in front of Alona Beach. It slopes down to 20m and is good for training, orientation and night dives. There are many varieties of soft and hard corals and schools of lip fish, butterfly fish and doctor fish can be spotted.

TAWALA SANCTUARY

Just about 5 minutes boat ride away from the dive center is this relatively new sanctuary. The interesting reef formation with wall parts and terraces is also suitable for not so experienced divers. Lots of schooling fish like jacks, yellow-fin barracudas and surgeonfish. But also small creatures like different shrimps and nudibranches are often seen.

ARCO POINT

Only 2km away from Alona Beach, this dive has a colony of sea snakes and a dive thru tunnel that starts at 8m and exits at 18m. This site is covered with soft corals and is home to schools of glass fish, moray eels, snake eels and frogfish. Occasionally there is current along the drop off, which makes for exiting dives for the more experienced divers. It is also suitable for beginners.

DOLJO BEACH

There are several good dive sites at Doljo Beach 40 minutes away. Fan Coral Garden and Hammerhead Point are on the north side of Panglao and have a great drop off for deeper dives with huge fan corals, elephant ear sponges and giant frogfish. The clear visibility makes the dives here unforgettable.

PAMILACAN

Pamilacan island is 40 minutes boat ride from Alona Beach. This site is excellent for drift dives and can have strong currents with a good chance to see manta and whale shark. There is also a large coral garden at approx. 20m.

BALICASAG

Balicasag island is very well known to divers throughout the Philippines. Marine Sanctuary with a wall to 40m. Black Forest with giant black corals and Diver's Heaven with schooling jack fish and barracudas, turtles, sponges, anemones, soft and hard corals make this site a must see, must dive. A 40 min boat ride gets you to Balicasag, where we normally do 3 great dives.

Sightseeing around Panglao

  • Visit Bohols unique Chocolate Hills, the eighth wonder of the world. There are 1268 of them... and no, they are not made of chocolate!

  • Search for the elusive, nocturnal, Tarsier monkey in Bohol's lush natural forests (they are only 3 inches tall). These animals are only found in the Philippines and mostly on Bohol.

  • Take a leisurely cruise to the end of the Loboc River and swim under the waterfalls. Just like the Amazon.
