CABILAO
 
Cabilao Beach Club

Cabilao is a small, untouched island west of Bohol. Its 3800 friendly inhabitants survive on fishing and some agriculture. It is a federaly protected area with 8 square kilometers of untouched nature that is far away from mass tourism and commercialization. This is a place for people who enjoy peaceful, quite moments and little night life. Cabilao also boasts to having the best diving in the area.

 
.Cabilao Beach Club Resort
Cabilao Beach Club is 8 minutes by boat away from Sea Explorers dive center. The Resort opened in 2004 with Flor and Henry, a Philippine /German couple overseeing the opperation. They have 4 double bungalows with individual tiled bathrooms, hot water, electric fan and a terrace with ocean view. The power supply on the island is limited, but the light systems inside the cottages is operational at all times.
 
CBC's restaurant is at the top of a wooden stairway, and provides a great panorama view of the ocean. European bread, fresh caught seafoods and daily exotic specialities are served. Shakes and juices are made only from the fresh supply of tropical fruits.
 
Getting there:

The fast ferry from Cebu City brings you to Tagbilaran in approximately 80 minutes. from there you go by taxi or jeepney to Sandingan and on to an outrigger boat that takes you directly to Cabilao. The best, easiest and most comfortable way to reach Cabilao is to let the helpfull girls at Sea Explorers Head Office, in Cebu, organise the transport for you.
 
 
Sea Explorers Dive Centre
 
SEA EXPLORERS is a PADI dive center and is located a few meters from the Lighthouse. At this well equipped dive shop you can also rent mountain bikes or horses.
 
The dive centres manager is Henry Firlay from Germany and is assisted by Michael. Michael looks after the dive instruction and also provides excellent guiding along with Belig and Aking.

Dive Sites around Cabilao
 
SHARK VIEW POINT

This plateau, at 30m is located on the corner of the island, where there is always a little current. The sandy bottom is full of broccoli corals and if you look hard enough, you will find the rare Pygmy seahorse. Also a good dive to see white and black tipped reef sharks, schools of barracudas and jackfishes. The bottom is home to ghost pipefish, many different nudibranches and thorny seahorses.
 
LIGHTHOUSE

Next to Shark View Point is a slope covered with seagrass and corals going down to 20m. This is a highlight for under water photographers as it has a great variety of rare marine life. Devil scorpionfish, stonefish, leaf fish, ghost pipefish, harlequin ghost pipefish, seamoth, stargazer, crocodile snake-eel, sea snake, harlequin shrimp, mantis shrimp are all regularly sighted. Do not miss any day or night dives at this fantastic dive site.
 
GORGONIA WALL

This wall runs 100m out from,and parallel to the shore. It starts at 5m and goes to 60m and is completely covered with different kinds of corals, giant gorgonias, many small caves and overhangs. Plenty of coral fish, rare nudibranches and frogfishes can be spotted. Occasionaly large napoleon wrasse cruise by. This easy shore dive is especially recommended for afternoon dives.
 
SOUTHTIP

This is similar to Gorgonia wall. The most spectacular coral formations are between 5 and 12m. This dive is best in late afternoon when the sunlight hits the corals directly. Schools of jack fish and many varieties of reef fish are seen. Also this is a good spot for novice divers.
 

FALLEN TREE & TALISAY TREE

A gradual slope from shore to 18m, where a wall down to 50m makes this a great drift dive for the advanced diver. Off the wall and in to the blue, you can meet schools of large barracudas, turtles and white tip shark. Frogfish and rare nudibranch are also found on the reef..

CAMBAQUIZ


This wall at the northeastern tip goes from 10m down to 70m. In some of the many caves you can find baby sharks and at 30m, there is a large cave which you can enter. A gentle slope on the east side of the wall is rich with reef fish and quite often turtles.
 
These are the most important divesites, but there are some more very interesting divespots around Cabilao. Come and see for yourself!
